working out of our office in the Belltown area of Seattle. Below are
summary job descriptions of the office staff to acquaint you with what
goes on behind the scenes.

Carol Lewis
provides strategic leadership for the board and staff, and also
works closely with the membership to promote Philanthropy
Northwest’s mission across our five state region. Prior to joining
Philanthropy Northwest in 2005, Carol
most recently served as Corporate Secretary and Chief
Administrative Officer for Coinstar, Inc. Carol also served as Executive Director of Pacific Northwest Ballet and as the City of Seattle’s Deputy Mayor under former Mayor Charles Royer. She currently serves as
on the boards of the Seattle Parks Foundation, Washington Women's
Foundation, and the Nesholm Family Foundation. Carol earned a BA in Economics and Political Science at Stanford University, and a Master’s degree in Public Policy from Harvard University.

Deputy Director
David Landers

As Deputy
Director, David Landers oversees the quality, planning and
delivery of Philanthropy Northwest’s programs and services,
including the Annual Conference, Best Practices in Grantmaking,
Peer Gatherings, and Regional Communications Initiatives. He
also provides support to the CEO in overall governance and
direction of the organization. Prior to joining Philanthropy
Northwest in 1998, David held positions with various
nonprofit and membership organizations, including Community
Catalyst (Boston, MA), the Chicago International Children's Film
Festival (Chicago, IL) , and Electronic Arts Intermix (New York,
NY). Currently, David serves as the secretary for the board for
Capitol Hill Housing.

Janelle
joined Philanthropy Northwest in September 2004 as an
administrative and program work-study intern, before
transitioning to the role of communications assistant. After
graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Seattle Pacific
University in 2007, Janelle was hired as the full-time Executive
Assistant. Originally from the Midwest, Janelle moved to Seattle
for college and decided she was a Pacific Northwest native at
heart.

Finance and Systems Director

Cheryl joined
Philanthropy Northwest in February 2003 as a part-time
bookkeeper and has since progressed to full-time Finance &
Systems Director with responsibility for accounting, human
resources and systems management. Cheryl has recently served as
a board member of the Mercer Island Schools Foundation and the
Mercer Island Youth & Family Services Foundation. Cheryl earned
her Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance from University of
California at Berkeley’s Haas School of Business.

Membership Manager
Maria Grace

As Membership Manager,
Maria helps build our diverse membership; connects our
members through the Membership Directory and database;
and renews membership
dues. She most recently worked with the Northwest Regional
Primary Care Association, a membership association
supporting Community Health Centers in
Alaska, Idaho,
Oregon and Washington. Prior to that, she worked with
Harborview Medical Center, a regional trauma center and safety
net provider. Before relocating to Seattle, Maria was the
Assistant Director of the Los Angeles Urban Funders, a comprehensive
community building project of Southern California

Lyn Hunter
is Senior Program Manager with Philanthropy Northwest where she
designs and delivers its
range of
educational programs and services, including 30th
Anniversary Regional Conferences, the Annual Conference and
member briefings. Prior
to joining Philanthropy Northwest in 2006, Lyn held a variety of
positions with nonprofit and for profit organizations, including
United Way of King County and America Online. She is currently a
volunteer with Seattle Girls’ School and is on the Board of
Directors of the Northwest Development Officers Association (NDOA)
and co-chair of the Seattle/Puget Sound chapter of Asian
Americans and Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy (AAPIP).

Megan McNally

Megan McNally joins Philanthropy
Northwest part time as Strategic Initiatives Manager to help
give shape and momentum to key efforts arising from the
Strategic plan, including building our capacity to engage in
policy work. A consultant to nonprofits and foundations with 15
years experience in the sector, Megan has served in senior
fundraising positions at NPower National and Refugee Women’s
Alliance, and earned a few gray hairs on staff of at least one
political campaign and several grassroots organizing
initiatives. Megan teaches grantwriting at the UW Evans School
of Public Affairs and volunteers with a handful of organizations
close to her heart. |

Sue
Bennett plans educational opportunities for Philanthropy
Northwest members around the region. From Best Practices in
Grantmaking, an intensive seminar covering the essential skills
for grantmakers, to informal peer learning opportunities, Sue
provides engaging learning programs relevant to today’s
Northwest grantmaker. Prior to joining Philanthropy Northwest in
2007, Sue worked for Child Care Resources as Director of Major
Gifts, was an Organizational Consultant and Trainer specializing
in strategic planning, and was a Consultant/Training Specialist
for the Wilder Foundation.

Christine joined Philanthropy Northwest in July of 2007, after

start-up company. She received her undergraduate degree from
Harvard and a Masters in Public Health from the University of

Katie Briggs is
the Junior Partner with The Giving Practice. She also does work
on Philanthropy Northwest's website and is occasionally pulled
in on other special projects. Katie received her B.A. in
International Political Economy and Gender Studies at the
University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington, and received
her MPA from the University of Washington's Daniel J. Evans
School of Public Affairs.
