Join Ile Kimoyo and Philanthropy Northwest for a timely conversation on the findings from the Washington-focused Impact of Current Policy and Budget Changes survey. Ile Kimoyo gathered data from BIPOC-led nonprofits across the state to examine how recent federal and state policy shifts and budget decisions are affecting organizations, community leaders and the communities they serve.

This webinar will explore how funders can respond thoughtfully and effectively during this period of uncertainty and change.

We will discuss:

  • Key findings on the impacts of recent federal and state policy and budget changes on communities and nonprofit leaders.
  • How funders can use this data to inform grantmaking, advocacy, and partnerships.
  • Plans for ongoing tracking of rapidly evolving policies and budget cuts and what this means for our sector moving forward.

Participants will also have the opportunity to engage in peer conversation focused on strategies funders can use to support BIPOC-led organizations and protect Washington communities during this challenging time.

Jodi Nishioka

Co-founder and Co-Executive Director, Ile Kimoyo

Jodi has worked for over 30 years on behalf of low-income communities, particularly women, children and immigrant and refugee communities. She started her career as an attorney advocating for immigrant domestic violence survivors and single mothers fighting for child support in legal aid organizations in Boston and Honolulu. Jodi continued her work on behalf of women and children within state and city governments in Hawaii and Seattle, and later with grassroots nonprofit organizations. Jodi enjoys her work because it combines her legal skills with her dedication to building power in communities, and especially in communities of color. Jodi also serves on the board of directors for JustLead Washington.

Annie Laurie Armstrong

CEO, Business Government Community Connections

Annie Laurie Armstrong is CEO of Business Government Community Connections (BGCC). BGCC is dedicated to conducting studies and reports that showcase and elevate the voice, experiences and assets of community members who have been systematically excluded from resources and leadership roles. Her ethnographic and disaster relief work embed stories about how the policies and practices of institutions and funders work together to support the happiness, health and financial stability of households. She works as a partner with local and national governmental, community based, private sector and funder partners to document work in a way that clarifies where changes must occur to truly learn from, invest in, celebrate and restore communities. In her volunteer work, she serves as an elected member of the Puget Sound Educational District Board where she uses her extensive direct service background to ensure the early learning success of young children, and post-secondary transitions of students served by the K-12 system.
