About the event

Ile Kimoyo is hosting a virtual Book Talk with Vu Le to celebrate his new release "Reimagining Nonprofits and Philanthropy: Unlocking the Full Potential of a Vital and Complex Sector." In his new book, Vu encourages readers who work in philanthropy and nonprofits to challenge outdated philosophies and practices, offering new ideas and approaches that are grounded in trust and justice. This book talk is a unique opportunity to hear directly from Vu about his past experiences and vision for a better future in the sector.

Vu will be joined by Andrea Caupain Sanderson, co-founder and co-executive director of Ile Kimoyo, as the event host, and Rashad Morris, philanthropic and strategic advisor, as the Q&A facilitator. Attendees will receive a copy of the book, courtesy of Ile Kimoyo (as supplies last).

Ile Kimoyo is a multicultural, cross-sector collaborative catalyzing healing and the restoration of resources in systematically excluded communities. Vu Le is a Seattle-based writer, speaker and former executive director of RVC, a capacity-building and leadership organization in Seattle that supports leaders of color and fosters collaboration among marginalized communities.

Andrea Caupain Sanderson is a co-founder and co-executive director of Ile Kimoyo, a multi-cultural, statewide collaborative of nonprofit leaders of color who are uniting through healing and advocacy to generate shared abundance in communities. In her role at Ile Kimoyo, Andrea leads the organization's advocacy efforts, particularly the WA LEAD initiative. Andrea has dedicated more than 25 years to advocating for and advancing racial and social justice for people across Washington state. She is fueled by her experiences as a Black woman, young mother and immigrant to the United States to challenge and forge solutions to systemic barriers and open pathways to opportunity.

Vu Le is a Seattle-based writer, speaker, and former executive director of RVC, a capacity-building and leadership organization in Seattle that supports leaders of color and fosters collaboration among marginalized communities. He is also a member of the founding council of Community-Centric Fundraising, a movement established in Seattle aiming to ground fundraising in values of equity and social justice. Vu brings a humorous and honest perspective to the nonprofit and philanthropic landscape, specifically through his popular blog Nonprofit AF.

Philanthropic Advisor & Strategy Consultant, Impact Donor Strategies

Rashad Morris brings over two decades of experience in politics, policy development, advocacy and nonprofit governance. As principal and founder of the advisory firm Reparative Ventures / Impact Donor Strategies, Rashad provides support to philanthropic foundations, individual major donors, nonprofits and government agencies on organizational effectiveness, program design, strategy and grantmaking. He is an experienced facilitator, thought partner and grantmaker dedicated to addressing the challenges of social, racial, economic and environmental injustice at their intersections. Throughout his roles, Rashad has worked to engage communities and to empower local organizations as they navigate these uncertain times.
