Listserv Policy
Norms for Listserv Participation
These group norms help create a positive, supportive experience for everyone who is part of Philanthropy Northwest's listservs. Because our listservs are designed for two‑way conversation, our shared group norms support respectful, meaningful and engaging interactions within our virtual communities. Each listserv is unique, and Philanthropy Northwest's list manager may further tailor these norms as needed to best support each group.
- Don’t be shy. The success of our listserv depends upon you! Post burning questions, your best ideas to share, best practices and accomplishments, requests you have of the group, etc.
- Keep messages within the network. Participation in this listserv is limited to participants of our funder community. Sharing or forwarding any messages or threads posted to any Philanthropy Northwest listserv without consent is prohibited.
- Use discretion when sending your listserv reply to the entire group vs. directly to the original sender. Take into consideration the content of your response (e.g. does it have pertinent resources for all in the group). If you have a response that you think would be helpful for many folks to read, we encourage you to share with the entire listserv. However, messages of personal thanks, congratulations, and "me too" type responses should be sent directly to the original sender. The frequency of personal, short postings may unintentionally discourage broader participation by other members of the list.
- But please do “reply all” when answering a question that was posed to the larger group for input. Seeing multiple responses can be helpful to others and creates a dynamic information thread.
- Share what you’re learning. If you ask a question and receive several responses, we invite you to share what you receive with the rest of the listserv to help facilitate greater group learning. Feel free to share events, reports, and articles that you feel are relevant to the rest of the group, offer possible collaborations, and share major announcements.
