Embedding equity in grantmaking: three works-in-progress

Philanthropy Northwest has spent the last year studying how foundations can build an internal culture that addresses diversity, equity and inclusion. SVP Seattle has spent the last year conducting a diversity and cultural competency inventory through the lens of their 300-plus partners and community members. The Seattle Foundation has been steadily moving toward a focus on equity for much of its work. All three of the organizations’ work, conducted separately, raises a raft of hard and important questions:

  • How do you put issues of equity on the table in a constructive way?
  • How do you foster a culture of learning and openness and change?
  • How can we improve our understanding of unintended consequences of our work by building stronger relationships with communities?
  • And how do you craft steps forward?

Please join  representatives from each organization for an honest, open conversation about the challenges we have faced embedding equity more squarely internally and through grantmaking.

We hope this will be an opportunity to launch an ongoing conversation with funders about equity.

This funders discussion is open only to Philanthropy Northwest members
