As many of you know, Pierce County recently announced 50% or more cutbacks for youth homelessness service providers. One emergent case is the Bethel School District’s houses for homeless youth, now slated for closure on Dec. 1. A recent news story highlighted the issue.

As a group of funding peers in Pierce County, we would like to convene a quick Funder Huddle to try and begin to understand this serious situation. We will not have speakers or a program. It is intended to be a “this concerns us, let’s huddle and use the power of the network to figure this out together” discussion. What do we need to know? Who can help us be more informed? Depending on what we find out, this may the first call of a series or this may be the only call.

Due to its immediacy, we kindly ask that this discussion be focused on the situation at hand. We are happy to come back together in the future to discuss longer term issues like capacity building, advocacy and sustainability.
