The Passage Point Director provides inspired leadership and responsive management for Passage Point, a re-entry and reunification program. Primary functions will be: internal and external communication about the project, financial management, staff supervision and networking with key partners such as King County Housing Authority, King County Housing and Community Development, Issaquah School District, and other community organizations in the Issaquah/Maple Valley area. The Passage Point Director is responsible for implementing Social Justice Principles within the management and operations of Passage Point Housing and Services.
This position has a social justice component that will require critical thinking around how external systems impact the work that we are doing through the lens of racism and intersections with poverty. Knowing the core principals of antiracism and grounding those principles in everyday work, as well as working well in non-white environments and championing anti-racism policy, are required job skills and core values. - Hire, supervise, train and evaluate the Passage Point Operations Manager and Housing Manager in accordance with YWCA policies and goals
- Hire, supervise, train and evaluate all Life Coaches, Child Advocate, and Community Resource Coordinator positions
- Provide indirect supervision and support to front desk clerks, office manager, and all van driver positions in accordance with YWCA policies and goals
- Coach staff in career development and goal setting
- Provide adequate opportunities for direct reports to receive volunteer management training as needed
- Coach and mentor direct reports to provide culturally relevant conflict resolution and problem solving strategies
- Include Social Justice Principles of the YWCA in the training and evaluation of all Passage Point staff
- Provide leadership and guide design and implementation for a high profile, innovative re-entry program
- Act as management bridge between services, housing and facilities
- Responsible for creating a balanced budget, monitoring expenses and revenue on a monthly basis, and making adjustments as needed to attain a balanced budget
- Work with YWCA Advancement and Volunteer Departments to obtain cash, goods, and services to support Passage Point operations and services
- Monitor progress toward contract goals and is responsible for program outcomes
- Search for and identify grants that will support the provision of services and operations at Passage Point
- Compile statistics and generates reports as required
- Foster and coordinate quality programming and services to meet the needs of recently released, homeless and low-income parents and their children.
- Coordinate with other YWCA departments, including S&IS, in order to offer residents variety of services and opportunities
- Meet with Community Advisory Group for Passage Point as scheduled
- Attend regular meetings in the community to provide YWCA presence and input
- Take an active role in meetings with the Issaquah School District, Department of Corrections, King County, and other government and private entities, as related to Passage Point goals and services
- Assist with maintaining political contacts and represent the YWCA in King County
RACE AND SOCIAL JUSTICE
- Will develop a strong resident community by building working relationships with residents using internal and external resources
- Attend monthly SJAT meeting
- Provide opportunity and encouragement to all Passage Point Staff to attend Social Justice meetings and activities including caucuses
- Implement all work by incorporating the YWCA’s Social Justice Initiative and understanding how racism, sexism, classism and other oppressions intersect and are embedded in all institutions and systems. Recognize that solving racism is the root of how we understand and heal from these –isms.
- Show demonstrated ability to interact with people of different cultures.
- Continue search for understanding of racial, gender and class equity.
- Adhere to all Volunteer Services protocol relative to volunteer usage, recognition and monitoring. Work alongside volunteers, where applicable. Understand where internalized oppressions (superiority and inferiority) play a role in volunteer and client interaction and know ways to address these oppressions from a solutions-based perspective.
- Assure that volunteers are treated with respect and dignity regardless of race, ethnic background, gender or socioeconomic background. Understand how racism has played a role in defining what respect and dignity is and use racial equity and multiracial perspectives when teaming with volunteers.
- Member of the Senior Director’s team within the division
- Work cooperatively and collaboratively with internal housing operations staff
- Hold staff meetings at least once per month
- Takes the lead when necessary in crisis situations and is on-call for emergencies
- Handles client complaints in a fair and equitable manner under established procedures
- Actively engages in agency-wide Race and Social Justice Initiative (RSJI), and strives for racially equitable outcomes; takes responsibility for creating and maintaining a safe and welcoming community by making room for people of color, trans and gender-non-conforming folks, and other populations who routinely encounter systemic oppressions
- Attend required safety trainings and meetings; follow all safety and health guidelines, standards, practices, policies and procedures; and actively participate in the agency’s Emergency Preparedness program and activities

- Minimum Bachelor’s Degree
- Master’s Degree preferred
- Education in the area of Social Sciences, Psychology, Behavioral Science, Education desirable
- Minimum 5 years’ experience supervising staff in social services, crisis intervention, domestic violence, and shelter/homelessness
- Minimum 3 years’ experience budget development and management with successful results for a budget of $200,000 or more
- 1 year or more experience staffing or working with Advisory Board, Board of Directors, Community Councils or similar community group is preferred
- Experience working in re-entry
- Experience working in chemical dependency or mental health services is desirable
- Must have experience speaking to groups
- Must have experience planning and facilitating work groups
- College level writing and speaking ability
- Knowledge of basic accounting rules and principles and ability to use basic functions Microsoft office word and excel
- Ability to analyze spreadsheets, invoices, contracts and to determine what action is needed if any problems or discrepancies are identified
- Ability to remain calm under pressure
- Ability to coach staff to improved performance
- Ability to organize own work, ability of organize the work of others Ability to evaluate the performance of others, ability to give constructive feedback
- Strong commitment to developing an antiracist program
- Understanding of institutional barriers based in race, gender and poverty that face women and families
- Ability to provide framework of action to eradicate those barriers
- Willingness and ability to use YWCA Social Justice principles
- Experience working with incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals
- Strong knowledge of and connection to reunification services
- Experience working with communities of color and people from different cultures than your own
- Demonstrated commitment to anti-racist principles
- Demonstrated understanding of the intersection of racism and poverty
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills of basic computer competencies such as emailing, calendaring, entry-level data entry and familiarity with Microsoft Office products
