Early May has become a popular season for community foundation giving day campaigns, including Seattle Foundation's annual GiveBIG, but some foundations opt to run campaigns at other times of year, too. Three Northwest community foundations recently raised $2 million for more 164 nonprofits in Montana and Washington:
Whitefish Community Foundation: Great Fish Community Challenge, a fundraising campaign from June 9 to Sept. 18, raised more than $1.1 million for 32 nonprofits in northwest Montana.
“The campaign did exactly what we wanted it to do,” said Linda Engh-Grady, executive director. “It helped all sizes and types of nonprofits raise significant program money at no cost. Many of these participating nonprofits have little or no paid staff and are run by volunteers, some of which are working two jobs. These individuals are passionate about their organizations and the good work that they do to serve the community."
Community Foundation of North Central Washington: Give Methow, a 30-day campaign that ran from Sept. 1 to Sept. 30, raised $185,504 for 29 Methow Valley, Washington nonprofits. The foundation will embark on another crowdfunding campaign, Give NCW, starting on November 26 (Thanksgiving Day) through December 31. Give NCW is tied to the foundation’s Regional Impact Grant program, which will provide the public an opportunity to help grant recipients reach the rest of their remaining program or project goal.
Community Foundation of Southwest Washington: Give More 24! campaign, which ran for 24 hours on Sept. 24, raised more than $695,000 for 110 nonprofits serving southwest Washington.
"The level of support you've shown is outstanding and there aren't words to quantify the gratitude that we have for the philanthropy you poured out over 24 hours. This day shows what can be accomplished when we come together, as a community, to pitch in for a collective impact. Keep that spirit alive until next year!"
