Navigating a New Virtual World

Erin Thomas | Due to sudden unforeseen circumstances, virtual offices have quickly become the new norm. The current pandemic has caused us to rethink how we work and communicate, and organizations are navigating similar challenges around this. These challenges include how to continue serving grantees, partners and beneficiaries while transitioning organizational operations to virtual systems, all in a way that is efficient and supportive of employees. The Power of Networking: Lessons from Dreamforce

Kelley Bevans, Information Technology Specialist | Confession: I had avoided Salesforce's annual Dreamforce conference in the past, thinking its huge size would be so overwelming that it would be of no benefit to my work. This year’s gathering brought 170,000 attendees to San Francisco, the equivalent of 20% of the city's population. I could suddenly relate to some of Philanthropy Northwest's newer members, figuring out our suite of workshops and resources, and where they fit in our six-state network of family funds, foundations and corporate giving programs. In both cases, it's helpful to focus on smaller subgroups for shared learning, keep an open mind, find your balance and have fun. more »

Giving Day Platform Offers Apology, Refunds to Community Foundations

Nicole Neroulias Gupte, Communications Manager | The fundraising platform that crashed on May 3, crippling a 24-hour online giving extravaganza for thousands of nonprofits participating in Seattle Foundation's GiveBIG, Montana Community Foundation's MTGives and 50 similar campaigns nationwide, has issued "a multi-phase plan" to make things right. Given Kimbia's latest announcement, the extended hours and employer matching funds to process, we may not know the final numbers from the giving day campaigns until June.
