We’re delighted to introduce you to Aditi Luminet, our newest senior advisor with The Giving Practice! Aditi is a seasoned social impact leader who has worked with dozens of private foundations, mission-driven investors and nonprofits to increase their social and environmental impact. She comes to TGP with deep experience in measurement, evaluation and learning (MEL).

We sat down with Aditi and asked a few questions to get to know her better…. 

1. What kind of work has been energizing you recently? 

I have really enjoyed working with leaders and teams on refreshing their approach to measurement, evaluation and learning. I love helping them move from a paradigm where evaluation was all about proof and upward accountability to one centered on usefulness and improving the work. I am energized and inspired by leaders who are willing to lead those changes, and enjoy partnering with them on how to shift the organizational culture around evaluation.

2. TGP is here to support organizations with measurement, evaluation and learning. What have you learned about what this work takes? 

It takes being open. MEL is about being willing to articulate and test your assumptions, to take in information and act on it even if it isn’t what you expected.  That requires a certain willingness to learn and be responsive, and I’ve found that teams that have this are often the most successful in their MEL efforts.  

3. Do you have a piece of wisdom that sticks with you? 

Someone once told me you can’t change culture with processes alone, and that has really stuck with me. I’ve found that to truly develop a learning culture within organizations, it takes more than meticulously crafted MEL frameworks and plans. It involves changes in behaviors, habits, ways of working and even in how people think about their roles. What I love about my work with organizations is being able to tend to the human side of this work, so that new approaches will truly stick and better serve the teams and the mission.
