Strategy

The Giving Practice specializes in philanthropy strategy. We work with all types of practitioners, and we customize each process based on the organization's needs to ensure your goals are met with success. We recognize that effective strategy work is about collaborative inquiry and practice more than plans. We work with clients to iterate and test solutions and use a strategy process to not only produce an operational plan but also explore big ideas, fundamental assumptions and burning questions.

A few examples include:

  • We engaged with Meyer Memorial Trust's board and senior staff in a deep exploration of values and impact practices.

  • We helped Names Family Foundation articulate and make actionable the donor intent of the founders while also capturing the needs and interests of the third and fourth generations as they prepare to launch a strategic planning process.

  • Our work with Blue Shield of California Foundation is based on a highly iterative approach to strategy development that focuses on core values, outcomes, and adapting to changes in the health ecosystem.
