Meet Katie, Robin and Emily!

We are excited to introduce you to three new senior advisors who recently joined our TGP community: Katie Hong, Robin Martin and Emily Parker. 

Katie, Robin and Emily bring a wealth of experiences across multiple sectors and deep commitments to advancing racial equity in philanthropy. Among our new colleagues are former foundation leaders, a published author, a former white house fellow, dog moms, and avid foodies.

Katie Hong (She/Her)

After immigrating from South Korea to the San Francisco Bay Area with her family as a young girl, Katie grew up observing and experiencing firsthand the alienation, lack of power, and othering that many people of color can experience in white dominant communities. This experience became the impetus of her deep commitment to advancing systemic and personal transformation and to a career in the philanthropic, nonprofit and government sectors. 

Today she brings 25+ years of experience working to transform systems across sectors and is excited to focus her attention at The Giving Practice on supporting leaders and organizations who are working to advance equity and social justice.

Currently…

  • Supporting and coaching senior leaders to more effectively take conscious actions that are aligned with their intentions and commitment to advance a just and equitable world
  • Supporting  multi-sector leaders, teams, organizations and coalitions to build, align and advance collective action towards equitable systems change
  • Consulting and coaching leaders, teams and organizations on developing, refining and implementing strategic frameworks and action plans and advancing diversity, equity, inclusion and justice in what and how they do their work.
  • Serving on the Board of Citizen University as Vice President/Secretary 
     

Previously…

  • Served in multiple roles at the Raikes Foundation including as Program Director focused on youth homelessness,youth development, education, and employment opportunities
  • Served as Board Chair of Funders Together to End Homelessness 
  • Led the Pacific Northwest Initiative at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
  • Held key positions in the public sector including Director for the City of Seattle’s Office of Housing, Senior Policy Advisor to Washington State Governor Gary Locke and Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels and as a Program Examiner in the Office of Management and Budget for President Bill Clinton
  • Served as a White House Fellow in the White House Chief of Staff’s Office from 2000-2001

Katie is the proud mom of twins who are entering high school this fall and is married to her partner of 33+ years.

Dr. Robin Martin (She/Her)

Dr. Robin Martin joins The Giving Practice with over 20 years of experience leading people and organizations in social impact investment-making and higher education. With a strong focus on seamlessly integrating diversity, equity, and inclusion with strategy and leadership development, Dr. Martin is dedicated to creating transformative change.

 

Currently…

  • Coaching and consulting on strategy, leadership and equity using an approach that prioritizes community and human interconnectedness, seamlessly integrates diversity, equity, and inclusion with strategy and leadership development with a humanist lens, and embraces the power and promise of cultural differences to transform organizations and individuals across the world.

Previously…

  • Served as Deputy Director of Strategy, Planning and Management at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
  • Held multiple roles at the University of Cincinnati as a tenure-track faculty member including Associate Provost for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Director of Athletics
  • Published the book "Navigating Courage: Leading Beyond Fear” in 2018 

Dr. Martin is an avid foodie, tennis enthusiast, and hiker who enjoys spending time in her favorite city, New Orleans. She currently resides in Cincinnati, OH

Emily Parker (She/Her) 

Emily Parker has over 25 years of experience in strategy and philanthropy in the corporate, philanthropic and nonprofit sectors. Emily has a passion for working collaboratively to shape strategic direction, lead organizations through change and support leadership development.

  • Working with philanthropic and non-profit organizations on strategy, organizational health and program development 

Previously…

  • Spent 14 years at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in a variety of leadership roles, including Program Officer, Senior Strategy Officer and most recently as the Chief of Staff and Director of the CEO's office
  • Served as Board President of The Northwest School
  • Served on the Advisory Board of UW's Evans School of Public Policy and Governance 
  • Served as Deputy Director of the Washington Women’s Foundation
  • Started her career as a Management Consultant for the Boston Consulting Group with a focus on healthcare, technology and business expansion

Emily lives in Seattle, WA with her husband Chris, two teenagers and a corgi named Jasper.
