About this event

This event is a CHANGE Unity Summit, post-conference session hosted by Casey Family Programs.

This session will include a three interactive components: (1) Review of the best research advances in child welfare and policy practice in the past 5-10 years; (2) Group discussion to identify the knowledge and research gaps in the fields of child welfare, children's behavioral health, and substance abuse treatment; and (3) Discussion of how to address key research/knowledge gaps - including new ways of collaborating to ensure that the right research is conducted and used for policy, program design and practice.

Speaker: Dr. Peter J. Pecora, Casey Family Programs and the University of Washington

Dr. Pecora has a joint appointment as the managing director of research services for Casey Family Programs, and a professor for University of Washington's School of Social Work. He began his career providing community-based services and foster care in Milwaukee, and has worked with a number of state departments of social services in the United States and in other countries to refine foster care programs, implement intensive home-based services, and design risk assessment systems for child protective services.
