About this event

Please join the Funders' Network for Smart Growth and Livable Communities webinar with special invites to the Intermountain West Funder Network and the North East Funder Network.

This presentation will feature:

David Leckey, Executive Director of the Orton Family Foundation as our moderator with broad experience that spans the fields of community revitalization, rural economic development, and citizen engagement, and Tom Renier who served as the President of the Northland Foundation from when it was founded in 1986 until 2014. One of six Minnesota Initiative Foundations of the McKnight Foundation, the Northland Foundation is a regional foundation serving the communities of northeastern Minnesota. The Foundation provides grants to nonprofits, loans to for-profit businesses, and a variety of programs that serve children, youth, and families. It also owns and operates three assisted living facilities in rural communities.

Tom will share his 30+ years experience building and leading a rural Foundation primarily dedicated to transformational rural economic development. He has deep knowledge in tying philanthropic mission and purpose with a foundation's legal and operational ability to operate loan funds, equity investments, PRI, Limited Liability Corporations, etc. Tom will discuss the do's and don'ts for foundations to follow with solid advice and recommendations to share with other funders. There will be plenty of time for question and answers.

Please register for this call by Friday, October 23rd to be sure you receive the webinar details. The registration form will provide an opportunity to submit questions that you would like the speakers to address, which we will share with speakers in advance of the call. Webinar information and further background materials will be emailed to registrants on Tuesday, October 27, 2015.
