About this event
This session is part of a four-part curriculum and is only open to registrants of the Philanthropy 101 - Spring 2022 series. For information on the next offering of this series, please see our Philanthropy 101- Fall 2022 series webpage.
Philanthropy 101 is a four-part virtual series that helps all staff new to philanthropy better understand the sector. In this interactive course, you will discover the history of philanthropy, review a foundation's leadership and governance, learn an overview of grantmaking, debate the current big issues in philanthropy and explore the various roles within philanthropy. You'll also connect with a cohort of other philanthropy professionals from across the Northwest. Philanthropy 101 takes place over four interactive online sessions designed for accessibility across our six-state region!
Session 3: The Power of Advocacy and Foundation Governance
Session three is divided into two parts. First, we will look at the role of advocacy as one of philanthropy's central levers for change. Then we will transition into a conversation of foundation governance, the role of boards and how to avoid conflict of interest and self-dealing.
