Philanthropy has begun examining the origins of its wealth and the power funders hold as decision-makers for how that wealth is distributed. With this reckoning, there has been a growing exploration of strategies to shift power in grantmaking. This session focuses on one of those strategies: participatory grantmaking. Participants will hear from a panel of their peers as they reflect on their experiences sharing power with and ceding power to community through their grantmaking practices. Attendees will then be invited to reflect on their organization’s grantmaking processes and explore opportunities to embed participatory approaches in their own work.
