Role Responsibilities: 

This is a .75 FTE temp-to-hire position. The Controller plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining internal controls, and complying with GAAP and regulatory requirements. They oversee daily operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance in processing financial data and supporting the financial infrastructure. Additionally, they manage regular financial reporting, investigate budget differences, and assist the CFO in budget development and cash flow forecasting.

The Controller also handles specialty financial reporting, such as reviewing show contracts and monitoring royalty payments. They collaborate with the CFO and department managers to develop budgets and financial analysis critical to the organization's management.

Furthermore, the Controller actively participates in audits, regulatory filings, and internal control enforcement. They work to improve accounting and payroll policies and foster an environment of continuous improvement. Effective communication with staff and a commitment to the organization's mission and values are also key aspects of this role.

Candidate Qualifications: 

The ideal candidate for this position will have a Bachelor of Arts in accounting or business, or equivalent experience, along with at least eight years of direct accounting experience. They should have a thorough working knowledge of nonprofit GAAP accounting, advanced knowledge of accounting principles, and proficiency with accounting software, preferably MIP.

Additionally, the ideal candidate should be detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to manage multiple schedules and changing deadlines. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential, as is the ability to work independently and collaboratively. They should excel in organizational tasks, be proficient in Excel and other Microsoft Office programs, and demonstrate ethics, integrity, and good judgment.

The candidate should also be able to work in a fast-paced environment, possess excellent "people skills," and remain calm under pressure. Regular attendance and punctuality are expected, along with a passion for the arts, particularly musical theater.
