Role Responsibilities: 

WORK SCOPE SUMMARY

The successful educational programing at La Casa Hogar was born from Latina immigrant families voicing their needs and aspirations. Working in partnership with and reporting to the Executive Director (ED), the Director of Programs will be responsible for the operational success of La Casa Hogar’s programs, ensuring seamless team management and development, program delivery, and establishing standards of success across all programs. In this newly established role, the Director of Programs will oversee and coach four program managers. This person will partner closely with the ED to maintain current program status, and using that as a foundation to build off of and envision for the future as the community’s needs are ever shifting and changing. This position requires bilingual Spanish/English (speaking, reading, writing) abilities, strong attention to detail, “big-picture” strategic thinking, project management, commitment to transparency, strong critical-thinking & problem-solving skills and basic budgeting and financial knowledge.  

 

JOB DUTIES

Program Management & Development:

  1. In partnership with ED and Program Managers co-create overall strategic vision, leadership, supervision and direction of all classes and program activities
  2. Build trust and relationship with students/community and implement current and new methods and strategies to engage student/community input
  3. Facilitate program team meetings and lead strategic annual program goal-setting + monthly/quarterly goal tracking
  4. Enhance current program initiatives and, as needed, structure & form new ones, in response to community needs
  5. Collaborate with program managers to select class curricula and learning assessment tools
  6. Create processes and implement tools to collect & manage program outputs and outcomes
  7. Research & incorporate new technologies or other research & best practices to ensure high quality programing
  8. Maintain current program partnerships/relationships, and responds to requests for new ones
  9. Ensure appropriate staffing and space for classes and legal services delivery are secured
  10. Ensure that a sense of community is continually built among current and former program participants

Program Staff Development & Supervision:

    1. Coach and supervise Early Learning Manager, Adult Education Manager, Citizenship Legal Services Manager, and Citizenship Education Manager by:

            a)Ensure that program managers have the skills, tools and resources they need for effective program delivery and staff supervision

            b) Facilitate annual performance reflections/evaluations of all program’s managers & support program managers in doing annual performance evaluations of all program staff

            c) Develop & implement improvement plans with direct staff reports as needed

            d) Develop a shared understanding of budgets and strategic thinking around funding & finances, and how it impacts programs and plans

Fund Development & Finance:

  1. Support Executive Director and work with internal and external staff with grant tracking and reporting, grant writing, & annual state contract renewals
  2. Partner with Executive Director & program team members to ensure grants meet the programs’ strategic priorities and represent La Casa Hogar’s authentic voice & identity
  3. Support managers as they lead and execute community celebrations and fundraising activities centering Latina immigrant families
  4. Support program managers in the process to co-create, finalize, & understand their program budgets and spending plans and return to those on a quarterly basis throughout the year
  5. Maintain understanding of program’s financial status month-to-month to be able to make strategic and tactical decisions for program finances

Self and Collective Care

As a leader of La Casa Hogar, this position is required to maintain values for self and collective care both for themselves and for their teammates. If and when stress levels are elevated to unhealthy levels, the Director of Programs will play a leadership role in partnership with the team, to address and/or re-structure programing to ensure La Casa remains a healthy, healing and collective workplace.  Based on the philosophy that one cannot help others if they do not first help themselves, the Director of Programs (along with the ED) is requested to ensure self-care remains a critical value for them so as to serve as a model and set the organizational tone to honor self and collective care.

Candidate Qualifications: 

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or prior demonstrated leadership work experience in program management, nonprofit management, adult education or another related subject.
  • Skills in developing program structure and managing change.
  • Experience managing, coaching and leading a team.
  • Ability to be self-directed & problem solving; detail-oriented and big-picture strategic thinker.
  • Spanish & English skills (writing, reading, speaking).
  • Computer skills and Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite.
  • Experience tracking, managing and analyzing program data.
  • Basic budgeting and finance knowledge required.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to effectively manage workload and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated experience working with immigrant communities.

Preferred: Experience working with a multigenerational team.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Physical requirements: climbing stairs, reaching, standing, sitting, walking, typing, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions, and exerting up to 25 pounds of force to lift, carry, pull or move objects.
  2. Position requires standing or sitting while looking at a computer screen for the majority of each work day.
  3. Some travel may be required to attend trainings or staff retreats.
  4. Some weekend and evening work may be required.
