Role Responsibilities: 

Job Summary:
The Foundation Relations Officer is responsible for cultivating and growing relationships with current and prospective foundation donors. This position collaborates extensively across the Development team, along with our Community Services and Operations teams, and with the Office of the President to build relationships and raise funds from private and public foundations. The Foundation Relations Officer will work alongside the Senior Grants Manager to manage the grants program from research into new potential funding partners; relationship building to acquire those new funders; participation in funder Requests for Proposals; proposal submission and application; thanking; stewardship; and required outcome measurement and impact reporting. Working together with the Chief Philanthropy Officer and the Senior Director of Institutional Giving, along with the Associate Director of Corporate and Government Relations and Senior Grants Manager, the position is responsible for helping build the annual grants management and solicitation plan to yield $5 - $15 million annually from 25-50 grantors. The position contributes to the maintenance of a grant library and resource depot for use by Development staff and is responsible for maintaining information and data of grants within the CRM system.

Compensation:

The pay range for this job is $80,750 - $85,000

Essential Duties:
• Develops, cultivates, and maintains donors, decision maker, and staff relationships with foundation stakeholders and program staff.
• Negotiates, drafts, and submits new foundation grant proposals, Letters of Intent, and amendments as required over the life of assigned grants; prepares other correspondence, including progress reporting, as required.
• Maintains foundation grant prospect pool and screens potential grantors with internal staff and community partners.
• Works inter-departmentally with Gift Accounting, General Accounting, Development staff, and the Community Services team to ensure grant compliance requirements are met through new and existing systems.
• Supports the work of the Senior Grants Manager; and supports Development and Community Services staff in grant writing through tracking deadlines, managing work calendars, and ensuring accurate and timely communication to all stakeholders.
• Maintains data for assigned grants portfolio in Mission CRM database, including recording meetings with key stakeholders, report deadlines, key grant information and grant application progress.
• Supports other Development staff in proposal writing with sample language, editing, and proofreading for major donors, corporations, and other audiences.
• Other related duties as assigned.

Candidate Qualifications: 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Demonstrated understanding of social and racial justice and equity, with a proven commitment to apply racial and economic justice lenses in both personal and workplace contexts.
• Familiarity with principles of Community-Centered Fundraising and willingness to adopt relevant principles aligned with United Way’s mission.
• Comfort working within a diverse work environment.
• Demonstrated highly effective communication, including superior writing and editing skills.
• Demonstrated excellent planning and project management skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Team-oriented with excellent interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to set and achieve defined goals and objectives.
• Proven knowledge of human services topics and established and emerging remedies.
• A minimum of 3-5 years of fundraising experience required, with foundation fundraising strongly preferred.
• Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office suite; familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics CRM preferred.
• Deep knowledge of both the nonprofit sector and the regional and national grant funding landscape.

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent specializing in English, business, communications, political science, sociology, public administration, or a related field is required. 3-5 years’ proven successful experience in grant writing, grants management and professional relationship building; demonstrated success securing grants from a variety of foundations preferred.
