Role Responsibilities: 

The Grant Writer helps support the mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of King County by attracting and sustaining funding. 

Working within a highly supportive 4-person team (with the Sr. Grants Manager, Director of Institutional Giving, and Grant Specialist) and a dynamic and ambitious Resource Development Department, this role will cultivate, write, and solicit grants from corporations, foundations and government agencies. The Grant Writer will also manage awarded grants to ensure that all deliverables and reporting requirements are met. There will be some travel to our 33 Club sites, to liaise with Club Directors, program staff and funders. This position reports to the Sr. Grants Manager.

As a member of the Club Service Center (CSC) team, this position provides a high level of professionalism and customer service and advances the organization’s reputation and position in the community.

  • Prepare, write, and submit well-researched and persuasive grant proposals.

  • Develop and cultivate functional grant writing expertise in the core areas of academic success, healthy lifestyles, job readiness, and leadership.

  • Gain familiarity with organizational programs and strategies by meeting Club staff in the field as needed.

  • Work with leadership and Club colleagues to build accurate and high-quality funding requests.

  • Develop grant budgets, as well as other financial report documents, in collaboration with program staff and the Finance Department.

  • Work with Clubs to ensure compliance with all grant delivery and reporting as required by funders.

  • Prepare interim and final grant reports to funders, in collaboration with the Finance Department and Club staff, to ensure timely and accurate reporting.

  • Work with colleagues to research potential funding sources (foundations, corporations and public grant opportunities) to expand the organization’s resources.

  • Steward successful relationships by maintaining excellent oral and written communication with funders.

  • Maintain Raiser’s Edge database by following established Grants Team processes to track workflow, deadlines, completed actions, and grant status.

  • Maintain close, daily contact with Sr. Grants Manager and Club colleagues to provide regular progress reports on assignments.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Candidate Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor degree in relevant field

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising including grant research, grant writing, reporting, and fundraising best practices; 3-5 years of experience preferred

  • Knowledge of the mission, objectives, policies and procedures, programs, and principles and practices of nonprofit organizations; experience in a youth development and/or Boys & Girls Club organization preferred

  • Demonstrated superior writing and communication skills

  • Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects

  • Ability to focus on details and see tasks through to completion

  • Ability to establish and maintain strong, effective working relationships with all stakeholders and partner

  • Highly organized, solution-focused, and motivated to take initiative and succeed

  • Ability to thrive both on a team and working independently

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite; Raiser’s Edge experience preferred
