Membership Types

Membership Types

Membership based on what you do and who you serve.

General Membership

Members of Philanthropy Northwest are organizations or individuals that make charitable donations to multiple recipients in the six Northwest states of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming plus Hawai’i. These organizations include very diverse entities, and their common characteristic is that they make competitive grants to more than one recipient. Also, all community foundations in our service area are eligible to join our Regional Community Foundation Network, which is focused on advancing issues of particular concern to community foundations.

Affiliate Membership

If your organization is a professional service provider that specifically supports philanthropy (e.g., investment or wealth managers and advisors, legal and financial advisors serving as trustees and advisors to trusts and foundations, and consultants to foundations), you can join Philanthropy Northwest as an affiliate member. Please contact Danielle Crystal, director of membership, for additional information.

Government Membership

Cross-sector partnerships and engagement are central to Philanthropy Northwest’s work to promote a more resilient, equitable and inclusive future that honors our region’s past, people and cultures.

This category of membership is open to federal, state and local government entities, agencies or departments that make competitive grants in the region.

Identity Funders Membership

This membership category is designed for organizations that make grants; are led by Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) individuals; and their primary mission is to serve BIPOC communities or are an identity-based organization led by a person of color.

Individual Membership

If you are not affiliated with an institution or organization and are involved in philanthropy, consider joining as an individual member. Individual members have access to all the same benefits and services available to organizational members.

Types of individual membership:

  • Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) holder
  • Consultant to philanthropists
  • Small staff foundation (less than two staff members)
  • Starting a foundation (not yet a 501(c)(3))
