As the largest wildfire in state history continues to burn in the Methow Valley, along with several other fires around the state, the Community Foundation of North Central Washington is contributing to the relief effort. We've reprinted their announcement in its entirety.
On July 18th, the Community Foundation of NCW has established a Fire Relief Fund to support families and individuals affected by the fires impacting Chelan, Douglas, and Okanogan counties. As of today, we have raised over $36,000 in donations and it continues to grow.
We have received many inquires on how the money from this fund will be spent. Our plan is to work with other relief funders along with our regional nonprofit partners and coordinate an effort that best helps the victims of the fires.
"We have strong relationships with our nonprofits in the region, and they are the organizations that have the knowledge and access to resources to help those in need" said Beth Stipe, executive director of the foundation. "We want to get everyone at the table that works in these type of relief efforts to ensure we maximize the funds and support long-term recovery needs."
Where Does the Money Go?
We are currently working to assess the needs of the areas affected by the fire and all of the resources available to support the victims. While some support from the relief fund may go to immediate needs, our focus will be helping families and individuals with long-term recovery efforts that will help them rebuild their lives and get them back on their feet.
We plan to keep you updated with development of this process as we continue to plan the best and most effective ways to distribute funds and meet the needs of the people.
We will not be charging any administrative fee to the fund; every dollar will go toward helping those affected by the fires.
