About this event
Join Philanthropy Northwest and Storytellers for Change for a session designed to help participants distinguish between asset-based and deficit-based narratives and understand the influence of personal and organizational positionality on storytelling. Participants will:
- Engage with a real-life scenario to identify elements of asset-based versus deficit-based storytelling.
- Explore the Storytellers for Change’s asset-based storytelling framework.
- Reflect on how their individual and organizational positionality influences their narrative choices and work.
Through case study analysis, an introduction to the Storytellers for Change’s framework, and group discussions, attendees will gain practical insights and tools to enhance their storytelling approach, ensuring it is empowering and inclusive. Participants will come away with a structured approach to asset-based storytelling, a valuable tool to apply in their work, as well as a deeper understanding of positionality in storytelling.
Who Should Attend?
This program is for staff who are interested in learning about or deepening their understanding of asset-based storytelling. We welcome any communications staff as well as other folks who have a role in strategizing about or implementing communications about their work externally.
