Grow Portland is hiring an Executive Director to join our team in Portland, Oregon!

 

Key Details:

  • Compensation: $56,000-$70,000, depending on experience and FTE
  • Benefits: Employer 100% paid health + vision, employer contributed dental, 401k with 3% match after 1 year, 5 weeks of PTO, cell phone stipend, professional development opportunities, working on a small but mighty team, regularly connecting with local garden and farm non-profit organizations, working with an engaged staff and board of directors, access to office space with free parking, creating a positive impact in our local schools and community
  • Location: Hybrid (remote + onsite) in the Portland metro area
  • Schedule: Between 32-40 hours/week, typically Monday – Friday

We are rooted in relationships, centered on equity, and learn together while embracing joy. We have engaged over 20,000 students in the PDX metro area, primarily in low-income schools; we additionally partner with community organizations to bring garden engagement outside of the classroom during the summer season and to low-income seniors.

Role Responsibilities: 

Position Overview: The Executive Director leads Grow Portland and oversees the implementation of programs and partnerships in collaboration with the Board of Directors and staff. Aligned with the values of the organization, this role ensures the sustainability of Grow Portland’s mission. A typical week consists of meeting with stakeholders (donors, partners, thought leaders), communicating with and supporting the leadership team, oversight and analysis of programs, contract management, HR and financial duties and analysis, communicating with the Board of Directors, seeking and completing grant applications, serving as a spokesperson for the organization. Essential functions include: 

 

  • Providing impactful leadership
  • Maintaining and contributing to strategies and organizational goals
  • Successfully overseeing operations and program management
  • Responsibly ensuring financial stability and accountability for the organization
  • Accomplishing inclusive and compliant people + human resource management
  • Leading board governance and relations
  • Providing external relations and advocacy
  • Supporting diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice initiatives
Candidate Qualifications: 

Who You Are:  You are a people connector, collaborator, and builder of long-term relationships. You inspire, empower, and guide others and are enthusiastic about creating a positive impact in our community. You additionally have: 

 

  • 5+ years of leadership experience in public, private, and/or non-profit settings.
  • 3+ years of overseeing and leading a team.
  • 3+ years of experience in securing grants, fundraising, and/or resource development.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement strategic plans, with innovation and big picture thinking. 
  • Strong financial analysis and management skills, including budget development and oversight.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and public speaking skills with the ability to inspire and motivate staff, participants, and community members.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Experience with and appreciation for living and/or working in diverse ethnic and cultural communities.
  • (preferred, not required) Experience in food, agricultural, horticultural, and/or public education sectors.
  • (preferred, not required) Experience implementing diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice initiatives.
  • (preferred, not required) Experience with local media, marketing, and/or public relations.
