Hybrid: Our physical office is in Olympia, WA. We offer flexible work schedules and locations. This is a hybrid position where most of the work allows for telework. However, you will need to travel to in-person activities, meetings, and events according to business needs.
Serve Washington is the state commmission for national and community service.
Serve Washington’s mission is to advance national service, volunteerism and civic engagement to improve lives; expand opportunity to meet local critical needs of the people of Washington; and strengthen community capacity while creating healthy and resilient communities.
We do this primarily by acting as a grantmaking partner for AmeriCorps. We also support other programs and initiatives centered around service and volunteerism.
The Serve Washington (ServeWA) Deputy Director is an executive level position within the Serve Washington leadership team focusing on operational matters to ensure Serve Washington is meeting organizational objectives and deadlines, while driving efforts to reinforce integration and collaboration across Serve Washington program areas, with specific attention given to promoting a culture of engagement and learning within employees.

Duties

What you’ll work on:
- Plan and organize program priorities; oversee long-term personnel needs, budget preparation and planning in line with the Division strategic plan as well as Office of Financial Management's mission, vision and values.
- Assist in facilitating decision-making with the Executive Director and Serve Washington leadership team; acts as confidant, sounding board, and advisor; provides sound perspectives and guidance.
- Drive execution of cross functional teams within the program; drive connectivity and accountability across teams to meet agreed upon objectives and completion of agreed upon actions.
- Monitor team performance; accountable for identifying issues; create plans for resolution in support of program goals.
- Build organizational talent by establishing systems and processes that will enhance individuals' knowledge, skills and abilities to meet today's and tomorrow's challenges to include establishing and implementing an organizational development strategy for the staff.
- Assist with management of program resources to include contracts and contracted personnel to maximize goals and minimize risk, making business cases for resources, influencing technology for alignment with agency and enterprise needs and goals based on business value and risk.
- Lead the development and revisions of the State Service Plan and OFM’s strategic goal work; oversees completion of goals and adjusts items as needed.

Required Qualifications:

- 8 years of experience, which may be gained concurrently
- Experience leading teams of professionals in the non-profit space or state government
- Experience managing/administering a hiring process designed to select candidates based on organizational needs and ability to grow into best-in-class performers
- Experience with contracts administration, especially in a government environment
- Demonstrated experience with budget development in a multi-stakeholder environment
- Experience and knowledge of grant writing, monitoring, and compliance
- Demonstrated management experience that includes responsibilities over broad ranging, diverse and complex business operations and/or issues, advising and influencing leadership decisions, and supervising
- Demonstrated ability to influence superiors, peers and subordinates to make long-term decisions that will benefit the organization according to quantifiable and qualitative data
- Demonstrated ability to collect, assimilate and analyze complex data sets
- Ability to work across an organization to identify process failures and resolve them
- Demonstrated ability to build, grow and lead a team to achieve results beyond where others have gone
- Ability to maintain focus and work productively in an environment with lots of ambiguity
- Ability to maintain relationships by presenting a positive disposition and maintaining constructive interpersonal relationships
- Exceptionally strong strategic planning, communication, and fiscal skills, demonstrated by at least ten years of experience in business/program operations, fiscal and/or IT programs and project management, including state programs
- 10 years of experience leading teams in the nonprofit or state government space. Preferred AmeriCorps experience
