To support their Pacific Northwest communities, Bank of America is giving $1,066,000 to 40 local nonprofits focused on providing access to workforce development and education opportunities in 2015. These grants are part of the bank’s broader philanthropic investment in helping individuals and families improve their economic stability.
The bank is partnering with area nonprofits like Urban League, FareStart, Financial Beginnings and multiple college foundations, plus awarding Oregon Tradeswomen and Year Up Puget Sound unrestricted funding along with leadership training as part of the Neighborhood Builders program.
Grant recipients provide youth, the unemployed and underemployed with job training and education critical to help individuals meet immediate needs and build stronger financial futures.
“Bank of America recognizes that jobs and education are interconnected and play a critical role in advancing economic development in the Pacific Northwest, so this funding specifically supports programs that help the unemployed and underemployed connect with employment success,” said Roger Hinshaw, Bank of America Market President in Oregon and southwest Washington, and Pacific Northwest Commercial Banking Market Executive for Bank of America Merrill Lynch. “If people have the skills and support they need to secure a stable job, they can begin to think about their overall financial security and future.”
These grants build on decades of philanthropic and employee volunteer support in the Pacific Northwest as part of a larger effort to help individuals and families build better money habits and find pathways out of poverty.
