About this event

In Washington, people with low and middle incomes pay six times more in state and local taxes as a share of their income than the wealthiest one percent. Our state-funded services and programs rely on a stable and equitable tax system. How does it work? Why do people say it is regressive? How does it impact everyone in our state and the critical work of nonprofit organizations?

Building Changes and Treehouse, in partnership with the Campion Foundation and Raikes Foundation, invite you to come to our free, nonpartisan informational session to hear from leading experts about:

  • Washington’s revenue and tax system: where the money comes from and how it impacts people and businesses in our state
  • How state revenues are spent
  • Revenue and tax-related proposals that may be considered during the 2021 legislative session
  • What nonprofit organizations are allowed to do in legislative advocacy and lobbying under our 501(c)3 status

Speakers include Andy Nicholas and Margaret Babayan from the Washington State Budget and Policy Center and Greg Wong from Pacifica Law Group. This event is open to the public, and we especially encourage nonprofit organization and foundation staff and board members to attend.
