The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) are two of the country’s largest, most geographically comprehensive funders of cultural programs, with combined annual budgets of almost $300 million. Yet President Donald Trump has proposed complete elimination of the Cultural Endowments in his FY18 budget, the first president to do so since the Endowments were founded in 1965. Should all or a portion of these cuts be enacted, the effect would be chilling, particularly on rural and  marginalized communities.
