About this event
Join Philanthropy Northwest and the Regional Community Foundation Network for this virtual gathering where we will learn about the equitable grantmaking practices that the Community Foundation of Snohomish County is using to support underserved communities. During this call, we will hear from their staff and their diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) consultant Nekya Johnson about how the foundation modified its traditional grantmaking process to encourage diverse nonprofits leaders to apply for funds that would sustain their organizations beyond the COVID-19 pandemic. This call will cover:
- The foundation's efforts to prioritize and advocate for resources on behalf of underserved communities in Snohomish County
- Strategies the foundation implemented to remove institutional barriers for more than 70 diverse nonprofits that are Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC)-led; Womxn-led; focus on LGBTQIA+ issues and more who were impacted by COVID-19 restrictions
- Ways to redefine advocacy by abandoning the "White Savior Complex" as it relates to equitable grantmaking
- Lessons learned in the process of implementing more equitable grantmaking processes
